CONDENSED BIOGRAPHY

Avishag Sterngold was born in 1978 in Jerusalem. She graduated from Ma'aleh School of Art and Cinematography with excellence and received her B.A. in Strategic Communications and Psychology from Ariel University. Avishag received her M.Des. from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. In her final research project, she researched the post-trauma behavior of the body. Avishag works in various media including video, photography, installation, bronze and ceramics. She combines sculpture with photography forming Acting Art. Her work involves mainly looking for the behavior of body and soul as well as creative research of the evolution of bread.

She deals with difficult social and personal matters that require a reflexive outlook which ignite sensitive feelings in the observer as a human being. By observing the small details of the soul, she enables the observer to remain for a short while in a difficult event which happened to him and with a slight touch calms him with healthy humor. Avishag finds a way to create experiential installation using humor and the absurd.

People, cameras and cheap material; these are research tools which build the language of her work. In depth ideas and critical statements are expressed in her works in a visual form that appears to be simple but confuses the eye, e.g.  from a distance an object looks like a simple memorial candle but when you get closer you discover that it is made of a  carton of cottage cheese and two hands waving like a flame.
